Craniofacial pain mainly affects the head, neck, and face and can make daily activities difficult or even impossible to perform.
What are the Symptoms?
Symptoms vary in individuals depending on the severity of the disease and the duration of the symptoms. Symptoms include:
- Recurring and painful headaches that occasionally cause visual disorders.
- Earaches and/or ringing in the ears.
- Feeling of fullness in the ears.
- Back and neck tension aches.
- Facial muscle fatigue.
- Pain in temples and forehead.
- Chronic cracking and popping in the neck.
Possible Causes:
There are number of factors that contribute to craniofacial pain disorders. They include whiplash accidents, malocclusion of the teeth (inherited or acquired), intense stress, clenching and grinding of the jaw during sleep or when stressed, long anesthetic medical or dental procedures, ill-fitting dental prosthetics or orthodontics, and diseases of the bone or joints. Single or multiple automobile accidents or sports injuries and or concussions.
